Are you hungry for some Founderfuel?

The deadline to apply to Founderfuel, our accelerator program, is fast approaching. On July 1, we will be closing the doors and will start reviewing all the great teams that are looking to come on board.

To date about 1/3 of the applications have been coming from outside Canada. That’s great to see. Interest in accelerators is global. At the recent Techstars Boston demo day, I met teams from Estonia and the U.K. and investors from all over the US and Europe.

The Real Ventures team has attended a number of Techstars demo days now and been involved with other accelerator programs such as Seedcamp and Springboard. We know what it takes to deliver a great program. Those programs have set a high bar that we are aiming for.

When I first entered the startup World, $ 25K was a couple of days’ burn. The World has changed now. Today’s lean web startup can do a lot of damage with $ 25K.

But it’s not about the money. The real value of these programs comes from:

• Being with other founders who are going through the same thing
• Spending time with great mentors and advisors
• Presenting to a huge base of engaged investors ready to write cheques

We have worked hard to assemble an amazing list of mentors.  And we already have a good crew of investors and will work hard to have lots more by demo day.
